Frequently asked questions

We understand that it is common to have questions regarding something as personal as therapeutic services.  We have attempted to address some of the more common questions.  This list of questions does not cover all sitations so if you have further questions please feel free to contact us using the information on the contact page.

01

What is therapy?

Therapy is a collaborative effort involving the client(s) and therapist in order to resolve or improve the sitaution for the client.  In therapy the therapist will act as a facilitator, counselor, helper, assistant, and guide in order to assist the client(s) in dealing with, resolve, or improve the situation that originally motivated the client to seek therapy.  The therapist shares their education, knowledge, perspective, and insight with the client to help the client develop new or better life skills for their life.  The client's responsibility is to take the results of the therapy sessions and apply them to their situation.  The therapist and client(s) then work together to adjust and modify the client's approach in order for the client to find solutions that actually work for the client(s).

02

How long will therapy take?

Each situation is different so there is no way to determine how long it will take for the client to find solutions that work for them in their unique situation.  The client has the right to terminate therapy at any time.  If the client desires to continue therapy but with a different therapist the therapist can act as a reference guide for the client.

03

Is therapy confidential?

Except under specific circumstances mandated by law, communications with a therapist will remain confidential, as will any records regarding the therapy process.   The specific circumstances are defined as:

  1. the therapist believes the client is a danger to himself/herself or to others

  2. the therapist believes a child, elderly person, or disabled person may be subject to abuse or neglect

  3. a court order exists that information regarding the therapy process be provided.

04

Isn't therapy just for the weak?

Therapy is for anyone who finds themselves "stuck" or in a place where they willingly acknowledge that they need the help, asistance, and expertise of someone else in order to resolve their situation.  Everyone can benefit from the perspective and advice of an objective third-party at one time or another in their life.  When doing what you have done in the past no longer produces the results your are seeking it is a wise choice to seek counsel.

05

What are your financial policies for people without insurance?

We understand that not everyone has insurance coverage for therapy and in order to address this situation we have the a policy to provide services to those without insurance coverage by applying a fee schedule based on the client's ability to pay.  The details of this policy can be discussed in a free consultation in the office.
